How CDs and Adverts Link

By Jordan Scott and Charlotte Lloyd

As you can see from this comparison of the magazine advert and the album Kings Of Leon have decided to create a very strong link between the two. It is very easy to identify that these two are closely related and are both trying to promote the same thing. A major similarity between the two pieces shown here is the image, they both use the same image which is placed in the centre of both pieces. The only difference is that on the magazine advert the picture does not cover the whole page it is cut short at the top and bottom in order for the text to be placed on a black background so it is easier for the audience to read. Whereas on the album cover the image covers the whole cover as the there is not as much text used for the audience to read. Another similarity between the two pieces is that they both include the  "PLAY.com" logo it is placed on both the magazine advert and the album cover, this is because the album can be listened to on this website and so having it on both pieces means more people will see it and realise its importance and then may be more likely to visit the website and therefore listen to the album and then possibly buy it. Overall there is more text on the magazine advert than on the album cover, this could be due to one fo two reasons, firstly that there is just less space on the album cover than on the magazine advert and fitting the text and the image on the album is hard so one had to be sacraficed. Secondly because the if the magazine advert has been effective people will already know about the album and the details about it, so the name of the band and the name of the album can be put in a smaller font without it having any sort of negative affect.

As you can see here from this comparison between the magazine advert and the album cover Razorlight have created a strong link between the two. The first major similarity between the two is that the same image is used on both pieces, straight away this lets the audience know that they are linked are both promoting the same thing. Another smiliarity is the font used for the name of the band and the name of the album and the use of the bullet point in between the two words to split them up is carried over between the two pieces. The only difference here is that the colour of the font has changed from white to red, I believe this is because this is the only text on the album cover and so giving it the colour red gives it dominance and it does not have any other text to compete with so it is effective here. The album cover is very plain compared to the magazine advert and all the text has been dramatically reduced I believe this is becaus they want the picture to take dominance and all important other information the audience will already know.

As you can see here from this comparison between the magazine advert and the album cover Mumford & Sons have not created as stronger link as Kings Of Leon and have decided instead to make the two pieces quite different. Mumford & Sons have decided to use four seperate pictures of each band member holding their instruments, which portrays them more as individuals. But then on the album cover they have pictured them all together in a shop window, here they are portrayed more as whole and they look more like a band here. The text on the two pieces is once again different, firstly the image is takes up less of the space on the advert allowing for more text to be written on the black backgound but with the album cover there is much less space and they decided that the picture would take up the whole cover. The magazine advert includes the names of songs, quotes from music magazines and logos. Whereas the album cover has much less text and just has the name of the band and the name of the album in quite a small font at the bottom of the cover. But importantly, the font of the name of the band and name of the album is kept the same over both pieces which is important as they need to have some sort of link if the picture is not the same like it is here.

As you can see here from this comparision betweeb the magazine advert and the album cover You Me At Six have created an incredibly strong link between the two. You can immediately see the distincive connection between the two. Firstly they have used the exact picture from the album cover, on the magazine advert. This allows the consumer to instanly notice the connection between them both. They have also used the exact same branding of the band's title. They have used the same fonts, colours and background (paper and sticky tape) to replicate the brand name and reinforce this onto the audience. However despite using the exact same image replicated between them, the magazine advert has been silghtly colour corrected to make it darker. I believe this has been done as unlike the album cover, the magazine advetr has additional text on it promoting the album release date etc. Therefore by having additional texts they have had to darken the background, allowing the text to stand out more, catching the readers eye. Therefore by using all of these features, allows the audience to believe they are buying into a brand and not simply just a one of product.

As you can see here from this comparision betweeb the magazine advert and the album cover Olly Murs have created an incredibly strong link between the two. You can immediately see the distincive connection between the two. You can automatically see that they have used the identical image of Olly Murs between both the album cover and the magazine advert. By using the dame image you can immediately tll that they are advertsing the same product. By using the same colour scheme of sky blue, marron, black and white, throughout both also allows the audience to create a visual link between the two. They have used the same fonts for both the title of the album and the artists name. The only differences they have created, is that the title of the album is black on the magaine advert, where as it is marroon on the album cover. I do not feel that this causes a broken link between the two products as despite being different colours, you can still form a strong enough link. Another difference they ahve made between the two products, is that the album cover hs a background of the title repeated but in white text. By forming this in white writing means that against the sky blue background, it does not stand out to the reader and is simply a subtle reinforcement of the title. By making one title in maroon, obviously stands out to the reader that this one is the main title. Therefore to reduce confusion on the magazine advert, they have bot included this on their background. It is simply a plain sky blue background. This I believe was the best decision as they have had to include additional information such as the album release date etc. If they had used that as the background it would of made it hard to read and a struggle for the reader to understand. Despite from these minor differences they have created a strong link between both album and advert.
